In October 2025, the European Union implemented a new border control and management system, known as the Entry/Exit System or EES. The Entry/Exit System applies to non-EU nationals travelling to one of the 29 countries in the Schengen Area for a short stay.
If you are a non-EU citizen without the need for a visa, with a maximum stay of 90 days in any 180-day period, and you want to enter the Schengen Area, you must go to the automatic passport control kiosks to register with the new Entry/Exit System (EES).
If you have already registered in another EU country, your registration is valid for 3 years and you will be able to pass through this control quickly.
For more information, check the official website of the European Union's Entry/Exit System (EES) and of the Spanish Ministry of the Interior.
